Reduce a video's file size
Phones record video at far higher bitrates than you need to watch it. Frameloom re-encodes your video with settings chosen for that specific file, so it comes out much smaller and looks the same. It also moves the index to the front of the file so it starts playing on the web instantly.

How to do it
- Open Optimize for web and drop your file in, or pick it from your device. It stays on your device.
- Check the settings. Balanced is the default. Pick Smallest file for sharing, or Best quality for archiving.
- Press Run, then preview and download the result.
What gets smaller, and what doesn't change
The picture is re-encoded as H.264 with a quality-based setting, and the bitrate is capped so the result is never bigger than the original. The resolution stays the same unless you choose a lower maximum, and 4K is brought down to a web-friendly size automatically.
Sound is kept as AAC, and it's copied without re-encoding when it's already efficient. On typical phone footage, files shrink by half or more with no difference you can see at normal viewing size.
Questions
- How much smaller will my video get?
- It depends on how it was recorded. Phone videos usually shrink by 50–80%. Files that are already heavily compressed shrink less, and Frameloom won't make them bigger.
- Is there a size limit?
- Files up to 2 GB work in most browsers. Very long videos take a while, since processing happens on your own device.
- Which formats can I use?
- MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and most other common formats. The result is an MP4 that plays everywhere.
